Bisa Butler is an artist I discovered shortly before embarking on this project. Picking her to make this monograph was a no-brainer because she works intensively with her culture and with quilting that relates to what I've been exploring through Peruvian weaving. This publication showcases the artist's work by incorporating the characteristic Kool-aid color palette plus the quilting aspects.
PROCESS
1. SELECTION OF COLOR
The kool-aid color palette is a group of saturated hues commonly used in African American cultures. It received its name because everybody drank kool-aid juices with bright-colored liquids. Bisa Butler talks about the color palette as a central focus in her work; thus, I decided to include it as part of the aesthetics of the artist's monograph.
