I’ve always viewed typography as a static, finished, and final piece. This project invited me to think about how type can behave kinetically. How to add the character of movement to type to enhance the concept behind the posters, in this case, the sound of trees. It was challenging and entailed multiple iterations and trial and error because this was my first time working with kinetic typography.

TRIPTYCH

As the multiple iterations kept coming in the hopes of achieving a composition and timing that would better portray the sound of trees, the Three most successful stood up, and they worked well together.

Thinking about a sound I’ve never heard, and I would dare to say that very few people have, is challenging because you have yet to form a mental picture of that sound and how it would look. Since I found words in the article like “whispering” and “ultrasonic,” I decided to start the design with those words that I knew.
