Projects that have the primary purpose of making are my favorites to work with. This project suggested a remix between two topics of interest randomly paired. I started working with the idea of dogs and learning how to cook. Since my design practice focuses on working with unexpected materials, I decided to introduce light in this already random pairing of concepts. The end product was a light accordion book that could generate layers of tangled light when closed and a clear image when laid flat.
MAKING PROCESS
The process was so much fun because it offered the challenges I liked. I had to figure out how to fold the book, stick the led light to the plexiglass, and best form a shape using a material I had never used. The challenges were endless, but I was mesmerized by the materials and the final outcome. Since this project, I decided that using light and unexpected materials was something I needed to do constantly.
