This children's pop-up book holds various myths and tales that I grew up hearing either in vernacular culture or history classes. Perú's population have an immense number of believes tied to the Incan culture that are carried till today. I decided to use this playful, interactive piece to tell those stories and to educate people on a little part of the Peruvian culture.

50 POSTER ITERATION

This project had its starting line in a simple creative exercise to take one poster that we liked, and using only the shapes, forms, and colors on the poster, we should create 50 new compositions. I chose this "Perú Independiente" by an unknown artist or designer (Top Left). This piece has a "Chicha Aesthetic" Peruvian street-style posters.I used every slight shape to create new characters and settings to tell some Peruvian myths and design patterns that would resemble those in Incan culture.

PROCESS

Then, to create a deliverable out of 50 posters, I decided to re-structure them into book format using the characters and patterns to give rhythm and pacing to it. I also hand-stitched patterns and ornaments onto the pages to relate to the Peruvian weaving communities that narrate stories through the designs on the fabric they create. Then I engineered the pop-up features to function appropriately and added an interpretation of the Tahuantinsuyo flag on the spine. The whole idea of this book was that every inch of it was tied to the concept of Peruvian mythology and Incan culture.

FINAL PUBLICATION DOCUMENTATION

It is a long video, but it allows taking a deeper look at each page because the complexity of each one deserves some time to digest.
