Working with time-based type is always challenging because words and sentences are individual elements that relate to each other. This means it is a very detail-oriented composition.

While picking an excerpt from Gertrude Stein’s poems, I was very overwhelmed. Being dyslexic made the reading and comprehension of the poems a lot harder than they should be. The positive thing about it was that I could design with what individual words were saying instead of looking at it as a whole. This segmentation of the words within the sentences helped create individually scened within the ninety-second piece.

STORYBOARDING AND GREEN SCREEN

I have yet to gain experience using After Effects, so I created half of the piece with film and half through computer software. This helped ease my anxiety before starting the process. I first staged and choreographed all the handwriting footage the video needed by following the storyboard verbatim.

Once this footage was done, the editing process began in PremierPro. This stage of the creation required precision in the jump and match cuts to create a seamless final video. The video was shot over a green screen to have the best raw material to later create those under and upper layers shown in the last edit.
