Weaving has been a long passion of mine, and I am obsessed with Peruvian weaving and basically any king on knit and textiles, especially if it is hand-made. I was immediately drawn to traditional weaving when picking a topic for this publication. Through my research, I found many contemporary fashion designers uplifting communities and hand-made textiles through their designs.
DESIGN PROCESS
1. TRANSPARENCY
When combining both topics of interest within this publication of traditional weaving techniques and contemporary fashion, I started flushing out ideas to translate this dual concept into a physical piece. The creative design solution I came up with was using laser-printed transparency sheets overlayed over the images of traditional weavings to create a contemporary silhouette with the traditional texture peaking through.
2. WOVEN TYPE
When talking about weaving I started to think about how weaving can come into the physical piece in an innovative way. I decided to create a woven-like texture within the text by alternating bold italic and regular weights.
